In March our Managing Director, Richard, was appointed as a Trustee of The Insurance Charities, our sector’s benevolent society. Established in the City of London in 1902 as The Insurance Clerks Orphanage the charity provides help and support to those working in the insurance sector in the UK and Ireland.
Richard had been aware of The Insurance Charities for some years as the Insurance Institute of Newcastle upon Tyne raises money for the charity each year as part of their annual dinner. The charity provides primarily financial support when members of the industry, or their families, are hit by a combination of adverse events, such as redundancy, illness, injury or disability an family breakdown.
Having already benefited from similar support from the Royal British Legion and his regimental association after being pensioned out of the army, as well as having a keen interest in the Third Sector, Richard was keen to be involved in supporting the same work in the industry that he has worked in for over a decade.
Richard’s experiences, combined with his (relative) youth, North east base and role as a practising broker help the existing trustees to add extra breadth to the board.
Richard sits on the Grants Committee which reviews applications and ongoing support for those experiencing financial difficulties.
He is proud to serve his industry this way and is already enjoying the opportunity to support those unexpectedly in need.
