IB completed its fourth Elite Women list in the UK insurance industry by inviting insurance professionals across the region to nominate exceptional female leaders who had to be working in a role related to, interacting with, or impacting on the industry and demonstrated an evident passion for their profession.
The IBUK team asked the nominators, including managers and senior industry professionals, to describe the nominees’ standout professional achievements over the past 12 months, along with their contributions to diversity and inclusion in the insurance industry and how they have given back through volunteer roles and charity work. Afterwards, the team reviewed all nominations, examining how each nominee had made a meaningful contribution to the industry, to narrow down the list to the final 63 Elite Women.
Closing the gender gap
Women in the UK workforce have made great strides towards equality, as shown by the country’s rise to the seventh place on the Women’s Workplace Equity Index from the Council on Foreign Relations. Due to its focus on diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I), the UK insurance industry is a good place for pushing boundaries and breaking glass ceilings. Insurance Business UK’s 63 Elite Women in 2022 are known not only for their standout professional performance and ongoing commitment to DE&I, volunteering and charity work, but also their dedication to ultimately achieving full gender equity in the workplace.
We are so proud of our Business Development Director Clare for being recognised again this year for supporting others professionally and in her local community!
Contributions to DE&I and volunteer and charity work were essential criteria in the Elite Women competition this year. Talbot Jones Ltd. were just recently announced as winners of the 5 star Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Awards 2022, another achievement we are so grateful to be recognised for, however this does not mean we don’t recognise there is a lot of work that needs to be done.
As Clare said in an interview with IB UK for the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Awards, “although we’re moving in the right direction, we really need to speed up.”
It is alarming that not many employees make a point to recognise their employers as diverse, equal or inclusive. The Insurance industry really could do more to even out the obvious gender imbalance of Managers and Directors in the industry and there is no better time than now to start making a change.
